Goodbye Time Traveling Chinese Food

88 Noodle House Awning

The food at 88 Noodle House wasn’t the best Chinese (-American) food you’d ever have but it was good (especially the Orange Fried Tofu) and I swear to God they had some sort of time machine because it would arrive hot and fresh between 8 and 15 minutes after we ordered. I need to stress that is not an exaggeration — 8 minutes.

We probably ordered from them at least once a week. Then one day a couple weeks ago I noticed the dining area was cleared out and they were moving tables and chairs out of the premises. I thought maybe they were finally updating their lackluster interior design but alas they were closing and the next day there was a notice of receivership on the gate. Boooo.

You don’t know what you got until it’s gone — and now my time traveling Chinese food is gone and I am sad.

It’s most notable because it’s the first time since we’ve moved to New York that a foodstuff or provider of foodstuffs was suddenly snatched away from us. The second was when they discontinued the breakfast sandwiches at Starbucks. BITCHES.

I’m finding it quite disorienting to find my life on other people’s blogs.

Somebody on Chowhound mentioned that 88 had closed. Otherwise I would have been quite puzzled as to why they weren’t answering their phone.
